Timothy Spears

Bass

Timothy Spears, double bassist, is a member of Symphony San Jose and California Symphony. He has performed frequently with the San Francisco Opera, including the remarkable 2011 Ring Cycle with soprano Nina Stemme. Mr. Spears’ interests span a wide range. He has performed regularly with Philharmonia Baroque and at the other end of the spectrum, in premieres of new works by composers John Adams, Olivier Messiaen, Mason Bates, and Chris Thile. He plays with the San Francisco Ballet and other Bay Area ensembles, and is a session artist at Skywalker Sound. Mr. Spears has enjoyed longtime associations as Principal Double Bassist with Arizona Musicfest, Music in the Mountains (CA), Midsummer Mozart (CA), and Sun Valley Music Festival (ID) orchestras. Additionally, for over a decade he coached the bass section of the Young Peoples Symphony Orchestra in Berkeley. A graduate of the University of South Florida, Mr. Spears studied with Diana Gannet Mizelle and C. Dee Moses. He was a member of Filarmónica de Caracas (Venezuela) and the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony.
