Discover connections across continents and generations in this California Symphony program. Sibelius’ The Oceanides, written for his only U.S. visit, shimmers with waves and stormy orchestral textures. Cellist Julian Schwarz performs the California premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s Cello Concerto, a commanding new work by a leading American composer. Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, composed after his emigration from Hungary, closes the program with energy, virtuosity, and brilliance.
