Bravo for #Beethoven250

Adam Golka performs solo for the composer’s 250th birthday

Online and on Walnut Creek TV

This is the first of four FREE virtual concerts hosted by Music Director Donato Cabrera in fall 2020, spotlighting fresh performances by featured soloists and California Symphony ensembles. 30 minutes ahead of the concert at 6:30 pm PST to hear Maestro Cabrera in conversation with guest artist Adam Golka.

  • And he doesn’t look a day over 249… We invite you to celebrate #Beethoven250 with an all-Beethoven program, featuring renowned Beethoven specialist Adam Golka. This program pairs one of Beethoven’s last piano sonatas (#30) with one of his most technically challenging, Waldstein (#21).

  • Before Beethoven, sonatas used to be trivial pieces played in salons and small performance. His 32 sonatas became the first major piano-only cycle worthy of being performed on a concert stage.

  • This is Adam Golka’s second appearance with the California Symphony. He played Grieg’s piano concerto with the orchestra in 2015, and he returns to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) in the newly rescheduled 2021-22 California Symphony season opener.

This concert is made possible by California Symphony donors, with additional support from a CARES Act grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
