What’s Interesting About This Concert

  • In the 1984 movie Amadeus, Mozart’s rival Salieri hears the Gran Partita and famously proclaims, “It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.”
  • The California Symphony returns to the music of American maverick composer Lou Harrison, with Concertmaster Jennifer Cho featured in his mysterious and evocative Concerto for Violin with Five Percussionists.
  • Richard Strauss’ knowledge of composing for wind ensemble was informed by his famous horn-playing father. Serenade was written when the composer was just 17 years old.
