Orchestra Personnel Manager (Part-Time, Hourly)

California Symphony seeks a detail-oriented and collaborative Orchestra Personnel Manager to oversee all aspects of orchestra staffing and musician relations. Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Music Director, this role is responsible for the effective administration of orchestra personnel for all concerts and auditions.

The Personnel Manager serves as a primary liaison between musicians, conductors, and administrative staff, ensuring compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), supporting artistic goals, and maintaining efficient and accurate personnel operations.

Principal Flute

Oboe 3/English Horn

Principal Trumpet

Audition Dates: Monday and Tuesday, September 14 and 15, 2026

Highly qualified applicants are invited to apply by Monday, August 10, 2026. Incomplete submissions or submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.

Preliminary rounds for Flute 1 and Oboe 3/English Horn will be held Monday, September 14, 2026. Final rounds for both positions will be on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Preliminary and final rounds will be held for Trumpet 1 on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

A refundable $50 deposit will be required of those invited to audition.

The California Symphony is a per service orchestra. The service rate for the 2025-26 season (2.5 hours) is $178, with a new contract to be negotiated soon.  The two principal positions are paid a premium of 25% over the base rate. The minimum service guarantees for these positions are twenty services for Principal Flute and Principal Trumpet, and ten services for Oboe 3/English Horn.

Any candidate not deemed qualified will be informed of the committee’s decision but will be permitted to continue the process and participate in the audition. The Audition Committee reserves the right to dismiss any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at these auditions.
