What’s Interesting About This Concert

  • Composer-in-Residence Katherine Balch (2017-2020) premieres her violin concerto in five movements, written for New England Conservatory of Music graduate and rising star Robyn Bollinger.
  • Big, dramatic, and one of Bruckner’s best known works, Symphony No. 7 is a personal favorite for music director Donato Cabrera. In fact, he says Bruckner is the reason he took up the baton.
  • The orchestra swells to fill every inch of the stage to deliver this epic masterwork, and includes 4 Wagner tubas that look like a cross between a tuba and a French horn, on loan from the San Francisco Symphony.
