Flutist Lance Suzuki has been praised for his “gorgeous flute tone” (The New York Times) and “captivating” performances (New York Concert Review). Recently appointed Principal Flute of the California Symphony, he has served as Principal Flute of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra since 2011 and has appeared as a guest musician with the San Francisco Symphony, Hawaiʻi Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Modesto Symphony, and Fresno Philharmonic.
A versatile chamber musician and soloist, Mr. Suzuki has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as at the Marlboro and Bard Festivals and on NPR’s Performance Today. Following his performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Flutes with Paula Robison, The New York Times noted that he “closely matched Ms. Robison in tone and phrasing.” He has premiered numerous new works with the Metropolis and Argento ensembles and in Carnegie Hall workshops led by Dawn Upshaw, John Harbison, and Osvaldo Golijov. He is a member of the Spring Wind Quintet and a resident artist with Chamber Music Hawaiʻi.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, Mr. Suzuki holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Southern California, where the faculty named him an “Outstanding Graduate” in his class. His principal teachers include Linda Chesis, Michael Parloff, Nadine Asin, Gary Woodward, and Jean Harling. He has served as President of the Hawaiʻi Flute Society and on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Music Teachers Association.
Mr. Suzuki resides in Richmond, California, with his husband, Josh, and their dog, Kepler.
