Mark Veregge has been a member of the California Symphony since 1987. He has served as Principal Percussionist since 1989. Mr. Veregge also performs with many of the local regional orchestras including Symphony Silicon Valley, Opera San Jose, Marin Symphony, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and others! He played with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra for 28 years and currently performs with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. Mr. Veregge holds a Bachelor of Music degree from San Jose State University where he studied with Anthony J. Cirone, and a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School where his principal teacher was Roland Kohloff, Principal Timpanist of the New York Philharmonic. Other influential teachers include Saul Goodman, Elden (Buster) Bailey, Barry Jekowsky, and Danny Montoro.

Favorite musical memory

A performance of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony at the Aspen Music Festival where the sun emerged through the clouds during the final moments of the piece. The audience was so moved that no one applauded for about 30 seconds after the piece had finished. It was mystical!
