Holly Heilig-Gaul

First Violin

Joined the orchestra: 1988

Joining California Symphony two years after Barry Jekowsky founded the orchestra, Holly has been a member of California Symphony for 30+ years. Her music career has been involved in a wide range of musical genres. She founded a successful string quartet, joined a nineteen-piece rock band which performed worldwide, and performed in casual orchestras accompanying popular artists including Donna Summer, Harry Connick Jr., Dave Brubeck trio, and Ray Charles. Through educational outreach programs within the symphonies Holly is a member, she designed and led performances that introduced string music to elementary age students in public schools throughout Contra Costa, San Benito, and Monterey Counties. After seeing the profound positive impact those programs had on the young audiences, she acquired her teaching credential and currently teaches in the San Jose public school system, incorporating arts into the classroom curriculum and strongly supporting public school music institutions.
