World Premiere
A New Work by the California Symphony's 2010-2013 Young American Composer-in-Residence
Rodrigo's Conierto de Aranjuez For Guitar and Orchestra with Roberto Granados
Shostakovitch’s Symphony No. 5
The California Symphony proudly presents the first of three world premieres by its soon-to- be-announced Young American Composer-in-Residence – the seventh such appointment since 1991. This groundbreaking program, which has commissioned 24 new American works to date, is the only one in the world designed to fill the gap between formal training and the reality of writing for an actual orchestra. Through three year residencies, emerging composers are allowed to hone their craft, using a professional orchestra as their laboratory. For our season finale, Maestro Barry Jekowsky will also introduce another emerging talent, eleven-year-old classical guitarist Roberto Granados of Hayward, who had the honor of performing for President Obama before he took office.
*Program subject to change.
